Background Information

• The OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134).
• Learn about regulatory changes concerning the former interim Tuberculosis standard on the OSHA web site.
• Read the VUMC Policy "CDC Isolation Categories, IC 001" concerning Airborne Precautions.

• The N-95 Respirator Fit-testing & Training Reference answers several common questions and provides a brief overview on proper respirator use.
• Complete the Particulate Respirator Approval Form and bring it with you to your fit-testing session.
• This document indicates which departments are required to have annual N-95 respirator fit-testing and which are not required to have annual fit-testing.

• Sign up for regularly scheduled fit-testing.
  • Thirty minute sessions are scheduled for certain months in the Learning Center in S-2430 MCN.  Times vary each month when fit-testing is offered.  Registered individuals should show up on time for the session they are registered; sessions start promptly at the scheduled time. No more than 10 people can register for any given 30 minute session.  Registered participants should bring a completed Particulate Respirator Approval Form when they go to be fit-tested.

  February 14	7 - 11:00 am
  March 6	7 -11:00 am and 12:30 - 3 pm
  September 4	7 - 11:00 am
  October 9	7 - 11:00 am

• Request fit-testing for groups.
  Supervisors may wish to schedule fit-testing to coincide with unit competencies.  Send a message to respirator@vanderbilt.edu to request scheduling for groups at least one month in advance.  Supervisors should instruct participants to bring a completed Particulate Respirator Approval Form when they go to be fit-tested.
