Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC)

The Environmental Affairs Committee is a faculty committee charged with administering the environmental compliance program for Vanderbilt University. This committee was founded in 2000 and is chaired by Dr. Wallace LeStourgeon, Professor of Biological Sciences. The committee meets at least quarterly and is comprised of faculty and administrative stakeholders from VU and VUMC. Charge:  To consider policies and procedures that create a comprehensive environmental compliance program for Vanderbilt University which will assist campus and medical center units in complying with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The environmental compliance program will include, but is not limited to, the development of an air quality program, wastewater quality program, storage tank program, PCB management program, pesticide program, hazardous waste management program and the appropriate training needed to satisfy EPA requirements. The committee will interpret guidelines and/or regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission pertaining to hazardous waste, radioactive waste, or environmental impact and provide technical assistance to the Vanderbilt Environmental Health and Safety department on these matters. The committee will also review proposed or enacted legislation impacting the Vanderbilt Community and inform Departments, Schools and/or Colleges of this legislation and its potential implications.
