Chemical Safety Committee (CSC)

The CSC manages and enforces the chemical safety program, establishes policies and procedures, oversees the establishment of Chemical Hygiene Plans (CHP), addresses chemical safety problems, formulates solutions and reviews and approves protocols involving hazardous chemicals.

Charge:
To consider policies and procedures pertaining to the safe handling, transport and use of chemicals and to recommend the adoption of new or revised policies for the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and Vanderbilt University Campus (VUC) administration through Vanderbilt Environmental Health & Safety (VEHS). To monitor and interpret regulations and/or guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institutes of Occupational Safety Health (NIOSH) and others pertaining to hazardous chemicals and to provide technical assistance to Vanderbilt Environmental Health & Safety (VEHS) on these matters. To review proposed or enacted legislation concerning chemical safety impacting the VUMC and VUC community and to inform Departments, Schools and Colleges of legislation including potential implications and business impact. Assist VUMC and VUC Colleges, Schools and Departments with their internal chemical safety committees and/or programs, in conjunction with Vanderbilt Environmental Health & Safety (VEHS).
