Barry Scott portrays
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Barry Scott

Leadership:
The Motivation and Inspiration
of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 6:30 p.m.

Barry Scott is a Nashville native and is also a nationally recognized lecturer and motivational speaker who will speak about “motivational leadership” at the CSHEMA Sunday evening Welcome Reception. Barry honors the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and will deliver a powerful re-enactment of the civil rights leader 's most famous speeches. Barry uses examples from his own life and shows how Dr. King used his leadership skills to motivate and inspire the nation to fight for equality and civil rights.

Drawing rave reviews from colleges and universities across the country, Scott's portrayal of Dr. King is so convincing and powerful that Coretta Scott King (the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) once cornered him between acts of a play to compliment him on his realistic and honest depiction of her late husband. His leadership speech is a regular part of the curriculum at the prestigious Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University.

In 1994, Scott performed excerpts of King's speeches for the Humanitarian Awards Ceremony honoring former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. He also performed the "I Have a Dream" and "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speeches on the "March On" album, benefiting the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.
