Instructions
Technical Program Submission and Speaker Information Form for
Platform and Poster Sessions

The CSHEMA 2003 Technical Program Committee invites CSHEMA
members and non-members to submit abstracts for platform presentation and
poster sessions pertaining to campus safety, health and environmental
management.
Information on this page is also available for downloading as a
pdf file.

Abstracts are due by January 31, 2003.
Suggested Platform/Poster Session Topic Areas
Platform and poster sessions will be conducted Monday through Wednesday,
July 14-16, 2003. Each platform presentation must be no longer than
45 minutes including Q & A. While any EHS topic is acceptable, the
“Emerging Issues Group” at last year’s CSHEMA conference identified several
focus areas of interest to the CSHEMA membership. The following topics are
suggested:

Small College Challenges
One person implementing diverse programs; In the regulatory
fringe—identifying the compliance drivers; Understanding conflicts with EHS
reporting to the regulated department; Core elements for small colleges (EHS
101).

Stakeholder Expectations
General practitioners, How to speak in management’s vernacular,
Instantaneous access to safety information, etc.

Performance Measures
Compliance programs, Voluntary program accreditation, Site risk
assessments, Program evaluation, Outcome measures, Benchmarking, etc.

Regulatory Updates/Current Practices
Partnering and pursuing the creation of reasonable and consistent rules
regarding: Ergonomics, Training, Fire Safety, Environmental Protection,
Laboratory Safety, Rulemaking and Enforcement actions, Indoor Air Quality,
Program Management, EHS Committees, Management, Radiation and Biosafety,
Sustainability, Construction Safety, etc.

Global Economy Issues
International work and exchanges, emergence/re-emergence of infectious
diseases, Greening of campuses, Aging workforce, Training a multicultural
workforce, etc.

Homeland Security
Emergency preparedness and response, Immigration issues, Responding to
defacto expectations of emergency assistance, State and federal surveys,
registrations, and notifications. etc.

electronic form on the CSHEMA 2003 website. (Preferred method)

Complete the “Technical Program Submission and Speaker Information Form”
and e-mail to cshema@muohio.edu.
This form is available for downloading in either

format.

Presenter Registration All
technical session platform presenters must register for the conference at
the full conference fees. Presenters attending the conference only for the
day of the presentation must register at the prevailing one-day rate.

Changes, Cancellations and Withdrawals

The Technical Program Committee regards a submitted abstract
as a commitment to present. Please do not request changes to or
cancellations of submitted abstracts or presentations.

If extenuating circumstances prevent the author from making
the presentation, it is the presenting author’s responsibility to notify the
committee and assist in finding an alternate.
